On my recent meditation retreat, the monks advised me to slow down.
This helped to a certain extent especially since I come from stock market where the mind keeps jumping from one place to another like a monkey.
They advised me to walk slowly & eat slowly.
And slowing down became difficult initially. Though it was most needed to calm the mind, focus on the present & reflect on my thoughts.
There was a 1000sq ft area covering a people tree. It roughly took me around 30 minutes just to slow walk & circle around it. Only for 1 round.
I heard there were some monks who took 3 hours just to compete 1 meal while the stock market traders here in Mumbai finish one in 5 minutes.
And there’s difference in both of their natures. The monks are so peaceful & at ease with themselves in midst of jungle without much means of convenience.
Whereas the traders here are anxious & at discomfort with themselves despite all the luxury & materialistic means around them.
Slowing down makes you realise the importance & value of the things you have around you.
Slow down once in a while is needed. It can be slow weekends like reading a book on Sunday, going in nature, having deep conversations with your loved ones, watching the sky, laying down, leisure, etc, etc.
Find your sweet spot & slow down. It will help go a long way without burning yourself out.
