Niksen & Investing

Niksen: Niksen is a Dutch verb which means “doing nothing”, which can be roughly translated as “nixing.”

I came to know this word exists, today.

And I realised that this to a certain extent summarises my investing approach.

Niksen is basically doing nothing.

And that’s what I do once I buy shares.

Once I’m done with the research & buying a business, all I do is hold them with patience all the while doing nothing.

Some investors have habit of being hyperactive. Checking stock prices infinitely. Worrying why stock is not moving. As if by checking the stock prices, it will move in your direction.

Once you are done buying, there’s only 2 thing that can happen. Either the stock will move up or down. So what’s the point of worrying where the market goes?

If it goes up, you make profits.

If it goes down, you make losses.

Simple.

Why so much sweating? Why the restless?

Too much activity & you end up selling stocks earlier.

Ironically, the niksen approach of doing nothing helps one corner bumper profits by holding on the winning stocks for long.
