Lessons From West Indies

When on the path of excellence, you can’t afford complacency.

Look at West Indies for example.

They were the pioneers of winning world cups but failed to even qualify for a single cricket match to ICC world cups this year & are knocked out of the world cup even before it started.

It’s huge for a team who won both, the very 1st & 2nd ICC ODI World Cup in 1975 & 1979 respectively.

I remember my father saying that our Indian players used to fear facing the giant West Indies player. Whilst Clive Llyod used to make fun of our bowlers by hitting sixes with just 1 hand on bat. That dominating their side was.

Nobody in 1980s could have imagined that the most feared West Indies wouldn’t qualify for the ICC world cup in 2023.

That is time. Things change.

I agree, the luck may not be in their favour this time.

I also agree, this may not be the end of West Indies cricket.

Though, a lesson to learn here. When one feels complacent, as & when one keeps winning, it’s time to take bold actions & stay the course.

Especially for equity investors. When you make it big in stock market, don’t let the success hit your head. Stay the course. Keep working hard. Stick to your investing process. Markets will reward you 10x.
