Are Theatres Dead?

An unexpected trend I see these days, the cinema hall around me are virtually empty.

Specifically, post Covid19 it seems people have lost the habit of going to movie.

Precovid, the same theatres were operating at 60-100% capacity depending on the movie.

These days when I check, hardly 10-15% of the theatre is booked.

Is this the new normal?

Has the boycott bollywood trend really materialised?

Are people permanently shifting to low cost, more options OTTs like Netflix, Prime, Hotstar, etc?

Will the cinema stocks like PVR be wealth creators or destroyers?

Time will only tell.

As a cinema fan, I care for good movies. And they should not stop producing it. Period.
