The flight I was traveling thru today developed some technical snags, on the ground, just before taking off.
The mechanical team came and started working on the resolution.
After 30 minutes of scheduled departure, it was announced that the flight has developed technical snags.
It’d take 10-15 minutes for the engineers to fix it.
As time went by, people started getting anxious.
They let their emotions sit on the driving seat and then the drama started.
Every now and then, people would call the cabin crew and ask what’s the status of the repair.
Some asked for refreshments, some asked for entire plane deboarding and some asked to arrange another plane.
All this while I observed the drama sitting in silence, enjoying everything happening around me.
What was supposed to be a 10-15 minutes repair, took 2 hours.
I saw people anxious, angry and impatient.
Then I realised that’s how most people are in stock market and in real life.
I had no other plans, so I was sitting patiently.
But people had connecting trains, overnight connecting flights and other constraints.
And that’s when I realise, that’s the same scenerio with a lot of investors. They’re running out of time, some started investing late, some want money for their retirements, someone’s kid’s higher education expenses or marriages are around the corner and they need money.
And then they need the stock market to run up, just like some of those passengers wanting the flight to take off.
I understood, that there’s a reason why someone is behaving the way he is.
He might have his own constraints. I didn’t, today.
Old lesson relearnt today: Having patience when everything around you is going the right way is easy. Having patience while everything around you is going wrong is a rare trait.
