Focus On The Forest, Not The Trees

In stock market investing, your focus should be on portfolio level.

If your portfolio is up, you’re doing well.

If portfolio as a whole is down over a period of time, then you’re doing something wrong.

It’s as simple as that.

Problem starts when rather than looking portfolio as a whole some people look at 1-2 names down in portfolio (which is absolutely normal in 10 stock portfolio) and start getting depressed.

In a portfolio of 20 business, you’ll do well if you already have 5-7 multibaggers, 5-7 okayish returns stocks, 2-4 flat stocks and 2-4 down stocks.

Focus on entire portfolio.

Just like not every player scores a century or takes a 5 wicket howl, not all stocks in your portfolio must do well.

Just like 2 player scoring centuries & a single bowler takes a 5 wicket howl, if your stocks have few 5-10x multibaggers; you’ll end up doing great!

Understand this. It’s a game of average.
