Recently, the tax authorities have demanded ₹55,000 Crores worth GST from the online gaming companies.
Now I won’t go into the legality of this entire ‘skill based’ gambling system. (Most of them lobbied their way). I remember, back in 2017 or so, there was a time when even Google play even banned these apps from the app store because of dubious & gambling nature of these apps.
Need not say, tens of crores of Indians have lost their hard earned money on these gambling apps. Thanks to shameless celebrities endorsements.
Usually I’m against unnecessary taxes too.
Though this one was much needed.
Also revealed the integrity of so called ‘celebrities’ who used to mindlessly endorse these platforms without thinking much of the end users.
Only the house won here.
99% people lose money on these gaming platforms.
Look at the condition of the African countries (or any nation) whose youth is addicted to gambling. If the mass gambles, the society goes to ruins. Simple.
Also some people say this ain’t good for capitalism. Let me tell you. I’m a hard core stock market investor & believe in the idea of capitalism too. Though there are limits for profits and it strictly should not come at the exploitation of masses.
This is one of the good decision by the government (Just to be clear: I would have appreciated it whether it came from BJP or the Congress) to protect the interest of public as a whole.
